Kualoa Ranch on Oahu is one of the most beautiful, wild and remote sites in the world. The ranch has a variety of unique places to marry. Movies such as Jurassic Park, Pearl Harbor, and the series Lost have all had filming done here. Sasha, an owner of the ranch, modeled a dress from Jin Wang - one of my favorite San Francisco dress designers. The yellow chiffon dress billowed and floated in the tropical air - just the right touch for a destination wedding.
Clemenz & Soyoung had a lovely, relaxed wedding in Woodside. Soyoung was so elegant. They had even arranged croquet for their little guests. Angela Nelson of Lulu Events orchestrated the day beautifully.
Maitely & Matt married at the Dunfillan Ruins at Kunde Winery, with their reception nearby at the rustic Atwood Ranch. Maitely was a bride with theatrical flair. Her dress was an unusual color - pale lemon yellow chiffon. For something borrowed, she chose to delicately feature a beautiful antique cameo broach on the satin ribbon of her flowers. They walked (and danced) with their guests from the cocktail hour on the terrace to the barn, led by a jazz musician playing "When the Saints Come Marching In".
Miki & Stan married at the Flood Mansion in San Francisco. She radiated calm elegance and it was clear how much he adored her. Miki's dog was a well behaved charmer and part of the day. (She told me when we did the engagement shoot that her dog understands Japanese. It was true if you asked him in Japanese if he wanted to go for a walk - he knew exactly what you meant!)
Sheldon of Melons Catering did the impeccable catering. Heron Freed Toor presided over the ceremony with inimitable grace. Neil Hunt designed the fresh, modern arrangements and the gorgeous lighting was done by Got Light?
Sulakshana & Niko's wedding combined a variety of cultural traditions, honoring their respective Indian and Scandinavian backgrounds. Many guests flew in from Europe and made really marvelous (sometimes irreverant) toasts. The reception included a wishing tree, instead of a guest book. The room was transformed by Michelle Barrio Nuevo Mazzini, who had it richly lit, with lush, deeply colored floral designs - gorgeous.
Catering was done beautifully by Melons and the florals by Spiral Hand. The couple was delighted with the way Savadelis Films captured the exuberant dancing.
Town & Country described this villa as architecturally one of the most influential buildings in the world. It made for a remarkable backdrop for the fashion shoot. I'm always looking how to incorporate architectural detail or something unique to add character and interest to a photograph. I scouted the light on previous days and loved the pale dreamy tones achieved in the images. The gorgeous dresses are from Amy Kuschel - the model is from Milan! I enjoyed the challenge of producing a shoot in an exotic destination. I don't speak much Italian, but I'm a good mimic and I'm fluent in pantomime. By the time I left, many people in the village knew of the project and I was touched to be invited to so many family dinners. Italians really know how to entertain.
Welcome to my blog! I hope you enjoy taking a look at what I've been up to. I work frequently with magazine editors - you can also see my weddings in recent publications. To learn more about Wendy Maclaurin Richardson Photography, please visit my website at www.wmrphoto.com.
